An expectant mother does not have to max out her credit cards in order to dress well during pregnancy. Although there are clothing stores dedicated to pregnancy and specialty aisles in department stores, finding cute and affordable clothes to wear during pregnancy may mean skipping both of these places.
Most expectant mothers would rather spend their hard earned money on baby items than on maternity clothing. After all, many women will only wear the larger size clothing for the last few months of their pregnancy. The prices of many maternity outfits bought new in specialty and department stores are just as expensive as regular clothing and in some cases actually cost more. For the expectant mother who is shopping on a budget, there are a number of ways she can maintain a stylish and affordable wardrobe.
Borrow from Friends and Relatives
Most veteran mothers are happy to share their old maternity clothing with an expectant mom. Maternity clothes are only worn for a short period of time and are usually kept in excellent condition. Pregnant women should talk to friends and close family member who have had children and who might still have clothes from pregnancy that they would lend out. After an expectant mom is done with the outfits she borrows she can share the gift by passing the clothing onto someone else.
Check Out Consignment Shops
Consignment shops are wonderful places to find cheap maternity clothes. The best places to find clothes for pregnancy are usually shops that focus on kids. Many child consignment stores have a maternity section. Clothing in consignment stores are usually in pristine condition, otherwise the clothes would not be accepted by the store's owner.
Search on eBay
eBay is a great place to look for inexpensive maternity clothes. Often women will sell their clothing in lots so women can purchase multiple outfits at one low price. This type of shopping usually requires making bids and the person who bids the highest within a specified period of time wins.
Use What You Have
Women might be surprised at what they have in their own closet that they will be able to wear during pregnancy. An expectant mother might be able to wear an oversized sweatshirt and t-shirt right through her 9th month.
Borrow From Daddy
When all else fails, a soon-to-be mom can raid her husband or boyfriend's closet for a shirt that she can wear. Men's clothes are super comfortable to wear around the house and an expectant mom might find she enjoys wearing her husband's clothing more than her own.
