How to Make Curly Hair Straight

How to Make Curly Hair Straight - If you have curly hair, chances are you fantasize about having straight hair. Getting super curly hair straight can be a chore, but in almost all cases it is entirely possible. By following a few simple steps, you'll be on your way to smooth hair in no time. Here's your guide to making curly hair straight.

Things You'll Need:

  • Blow dryer
  • Frizz serum
  • Hair straightener (flat iron)
  • Hair spray
  • Brush (preferably a curly brush)

Instructions

  • Wash your hair the way you normally would, making sure to use a conditioner. Before you rinse the conditioner out of your hair, brush or pick it.
    • Towel dry hair, brush it once more, and then shake it out by throwing your head down and up. This will loosen the hair at your scalp and will add to the drying process.

    • Wrap hair in towel and let sit for about 15 minutes. You don't want to blow dry soaking wet hair. Your hair will frizz less if you start blow drying it after it has started air drying.

    • After you have let you hair towel dry some, smooth in a small amount of frizz serum. For long hair, a dime-size amount will suffice; short hair will use considerably less. Start at the nape of your neck and smooth down and then use the excess for the roots and top of your head.

    • Now you want to blow dry you hair using the curling brush. Dry in small sections, starting at the bottom and working you way to the top until the hair is completely dry. If your hair is extremely curly, you'll have a puffy mane once you've finished blow drying. But don't worry, that's where the flat iron comes in.

    • Spray a light mist of hair spray over dried hair, then, working in very small sections, smooth the hair out with the flat iron. Be patient during this step and repeat the process as necessary over extremely difficult sections. Once you've completed your whole head with the flat iron, add another small amount of frizz serum (less than before) to finished hair. This will help with any humidity you might encounter and will make the hair extra shiny.

    • If you have extremely coarse hair and are unable to brush it when it's dry, you'll need to have your hair chemically straightened. A relaxer is a strong chemical substance that should not be used on any hair type. Be sure to read the package and follow the directions carefully.

    • Another option, made popular very recently, is a process similar to the perm of the eighties. This process does the opposite of a curl perm and permanently straightens your hair instead. This is best left to salon professionals who are better equipped at dealing with the different types of hair characteristics, like straight hair with a smooth cuticle.
